Teeth Whitening
Teeth Whitening
All of us want bright, white and healthy looking teeth. Unfortunately not everyone is a 100% happy with the look of their smile. This is where cosmetic dentistry can help.
There is a wide range of tooth whitening procedures available, however not everything will be effective in every case. For this reason it is important to first try and understand the sort of discoloration you suffer from.
- Consumption of highly coloured foods and drinks, such as berries, chocolate, coffee, tea and red wine
- Being exposed to certain antibiotics at a young age
- Smoking
- General discoloration as a result of ageing
If you are unhappy with the colour, shape or general appearance of your teeth, it is always best to come in for a consultation. During this appointment, your dentist can assess your teeth, talk to you about what you want to achieve, and present to you a plan to suit you and your budget.
Depending on your particular situation it could be recommended that you consider one of the following;
An in-surgery laser whitening system, often offering instantaneous results
A take home whitening system, offering similar results over an extended period of time and relatively inexpensively
Porcelain veneers and a full smile makeover
If you have fillings in your front teeth, most whitening methods will not affect their colour. If you are concerned about the colour of your fillings after whitening, you may need to have them refilled in order to match your newly whitened smile. Tooth whitening can also cause varying degrees of sensitivity, however you dentist will be able to discuss whether this may be a problem for you and also how to manage it adequately.
